Hello Gimlet Fans,

We're doing a lot at SXSW this year, and we'd love to see you there! Let this email be your guide to every live show, meetup, and panel we're doing:

Sunday, March 11

The Pitch Live @ SXSW The TuneIn Stage

Time: 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM CT

Location: The Fairmont Hotel, Austin, Wisteria Room

What: The Pitch, Gimlet Media’s podcast that brings listeners inside the room as real founders pitch to VCs for real money, is coming to SXSW for its first live show ever. Host Josh Muccio will be in conversation with Arlan Hamilton to talk about her journey to the world of VC. Arlan, with Backstage Capital, has an incredible story — Josh will talk about how she became a VC, what she looks for in promising companies, and how she balances it all while still managing recording artists.

Monday, March 12

For the Love of Nerding (SXSW Panel w/ Flora Lichtman)

Time: 5:00 - 6:00 PM CT

Location: JW Marriott Salon FG

What:  In an era of 24-hour cable news, a stream of alternative facts, and an infinite well of political headlines is there room for stories that simply delight? Panelists will make a case for why nerdy, strange, non-pressing stories matter. They’ll discuss their work in different areas (social media, video, podcasting) and ways they use delightful news or nerdy information to engage with people in a very crowded and often cynical, media landscape.

The Nod Live @ SXSW The TuneIn Stage

Time: 5:00 - 6:00 PM CT

Location: Fairmont Hotel, Austin

What: Gimlet Media's The Nod comes to Austin for a live show at SXSW 2018. The Nod tells the stories of Black life that don’t get told anywhere else. We celebrate the genius, the innovation, and the resilience that is so particular to being Black — in America, and around the world.

Tuesday, March 13

What Podcasts Eat for Dinner: How to Feed a Show (Panel w/ Wendy Zukerman)

Time: 3:30 - 4:30 PM CT

Location: JW Marriott Salon FG

What:  So you’ve launched a podcast! Now how do you keep up with regular production, generate ongoing content, and earn some revenue for your efforts? What about managing social channels and audience engagement, feeding your own creative appetite, and staving off general burn-out? Hear from a range of producers of independent and network-based podcasts, working on shows old and new, big and small, about how they feed their pod-beasts. And bring your questions.

Wednesday, March 14

Out of Earbuds & Onto the Screen: Your Fave Podcast

Time: 11:00 - 12:00 PM CT

Location: Fairmont Congressional B

What:  More and more, podcasts are being approached by big movie studios and television networks to turn turn their audio content into something visual. Hear from real podcasters who have made this leap, and learn what the business models look like, how podcasters can make money from these deals, how we maintain control over content, how mediums like can be used to increase audience, and, most importantly, how do we stay true to ourselves and our native medium?

Thursday, March 15

Critical Conversations: Identity in Podcasting (Panel w/ Brittany Luse)

Time: 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM CT

Location: JW Marriott Salon FG

What: Podcasting is a booming business: audience has grown 40% over the past two years and revenue is nearly doubling year over year. Additionally, its intimacy and accessibility have given rise to a wide range of voices. Still, as of mid-2017, a majority of the top 100 podcasts were hosted by straight, white men. But things don’t have to stay that way. Join a diverse panel of podcast hosts from Gimlet Media, WNYC Studios, and more whose shows are changing the conversation one story at a time.

Monetizing Podcasts in the US and Beyond (Panel w/ Nazanin Rafsanjani + Jane Marie)

Time: 2:00 - 3:00 PM

Location:  Fairmont Congressional B

What:  By bringing together podcast creators, platforms and the UK Department for International Trade, we will have a conversation about the best ways to monetize podcasts and find both a domestic and international audience. We will cover branded podcasts, the subscription model, and building a global brand. Panelists will include Jane Marie (DTR), Lauren Jarvis (Director of Of Original Content, Spotify), Nazanin Rafsanjani (Creative Director, Gimlet) and KC Wayland (We Are Alive, Bronzeville).
