A newsletter from Austin Kleon
help me be worthy of my life
Hey y’all,

This week was totally nuts, but everybody in my house is safe and sound and Bach in the swing of things.

Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing:
  1. What happens when my 5-year-old hangs out in the studio. (Bonus link: “How To Make Your Life Go On Forever.”)

  2. I am reading Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Lathe of Heaven. It is awesome so far. (The Left Hand of Darkness was the first book I read after the 2016 election.)

  3. Keeping a diary in a Nazi prison camp. (A little lighter: the Zen diaries of Gary Shandling.)

  4. Questlove talks about his new book, Creative Quest. (I enjoyed his memoir, Mo’ Meta Blues, and his book on Soul Train.)

  5. Artist Wendy MacNaughton just paid off $100k in student loan debt and had some things to say. (See also: Kio Stark’s book, Don’t Go Back To School, and, for some other stuff on debt, see Roxane Gay and Sarah Smarsh’s interviews in Scratch: Writers, Money, and the Art of Making a Living.)

  6. Photographer Bill Cunningham left behind a “secret” memoir, Fashion Climbing. (If you haven’t seen it, the documentary Bill Cunningham New York is terrific.)

  7. Speaking of wonderful human beings, bring tissues, because the new Mr. Rogers documentary looks wonderful

  8. Ear candy: this mellow version of Wire’s “Outdoor Miner” and all 8 hours of Max Richter’s Sleep are now streaming.

  9. Reminder: Iggy Pop’s cockatoo’s Instagram is the best.

  10. RIP Anthony Stephan House and Draylen Mason.
