I featured Morihata last week, and I don't mean to be repetitive but their products just ask for it. Defined by quality and designs that do exactly what they claim to the Japanese based duo's products (like the Binchotan charcoal powder scrub towel) are created to amplify your beauty regime, naturally. With their store and their chummy collaborations, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim became New York’s resident curators of hip. Who cares that they don’t sew? High-end fashion tends to be the terrain of jaded, snobby insiders—the megalomaniacal couturier, the high-handed boutique clerk, the intern with a ten-thousand-dollar handbag. It’s a type that finds its origin in many a high-school cafeteria: the mean girl (boys may also apply). For instance, when New York City fire marshals removed some chairs from the front row of a Zac Posen runway show several years ago, the ensuing scuffle provoked one guest to slap a publicist in the face, leading to a million-dollar lawsuit for “intentional infliction of emotional distress.”
