Of all photo books that I want to kick back on a Monday afternoon and completely indulge in, it's this one. From the photographer who traversed the world with the ultra-rich, Slim Aarons: Women explores (across 200 images) the central subject of Slim Aarons’s photography career—women. With an artful gaze on those who most influenced Aarons’s life and work—and other remarkable personalities like Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Diana Vreeland, and Marilyn Monroe–Aaron's stunning compilation of his life's work glamorously takes us somewhere that we'd rather be.

In the summer of 1977 the celebrated photographer Slim Aarons was lunching at the Hotel Goldener Hirsch in Salzburg, Austria, with Princess Grace of Monaco and her 20-year-old daughter, Caroline. At one point, as he later recounted time and again, Grace was struck by what she thought was a wonderful idea: “Oh, Slim, why not hire Caroline to work with you? You two could travel around the world together!” Caroline excitedly nodded her approval. As Slim told the story, a devilish smile crept across his face. “Why, what a wonderful idea, Grace,” he replied, making it clear he was on a first-name basis with the princess. “But there’s just one question,” he said. He already knew the answer, but he strung it along. “Caroline,” he asked, leveling his gaze at her, “can you get up in the mornings—early? Every morning?” They both looked at him, perplexed, and shortly thereafter the subject changed.
